Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of two men wanted in connection with a series of copper thefts in Lafourche Parish. Warrants for the arrest of Joseph Gaddis (W/M, DOB 10/2/1968, 180 Lake Drive, Raceland) and Douglas Schmidt (W/M, DOB 5/10/1983, 1510 Driftwood Drive North, Mobile, AL) were obtained following a month long investigation into the theft of copper wire in electrical boxes and utility services in an area behind Fuel Solutions (the old Valentine Paper Mill) in December.
Gaddis and Schmidt were arrested Friday, February 4, 2011 without incident and booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. Both posted $10,500 bond as set by Judge Ashly Bruce Simpson. A third ma, Scott Martin of Raceland, was booked in the case last month and he is also out of jail at this time on bond.
