  1. Doggone good spot in western suburbs

Named for a departed pooch, Zak's Place is as friendly and eager to please as was its namesake.
Named for a departed pooch, Zak's Place is as friendly and eager to please as was its namesake. Zak's Place has been flying under the radar for most of its five years in downtown Hinsdale. It did get a nice mention from Chicago magazine for its burger...

  3. Phil Vettel recommends

In case you've been living under a rock the last few weeks, the NATO summit is coming to Chicago — specifically, to McCormick Place — Sunday through Monday, and street and highway closings (which commence Saturday evening) have some local restaurants wondering if they'll do any business this weekend. The South Loop restaurant Acadia, for instance, has decided to close Sunday evening, given the paucity of reservations (it's also closed Monday and Tuesday, but that's true every week).

  13. What the Average Commuter Needs to Know for NATO

<span style=&quot;font-size: x-small;">There are three types of Chicago drivers who will feel the most traffic pain on 'NATO Monday.' First, if I-55 and the Lake Shore Drive interchange is part of your weekday&nbsp;route to-and-from The Loop, you will be greatly impacted by the NATO closures on Monday, May 21st.&nbsp;&nbsp; Secondly, for those commuters who come into the financial district on Lake Shore (around Grant Park), you will be delayed by the&nbsp;detours.&nbsp; Finally, if you happen to be on the Kennedy Expressway when a high-level (security-wise)&nbsp;Summit Attendee is&nbsp;travelling&nbsp;between McCormick Place and O'Hare airport - you&nbsp;could be stalled by a rolling closure for a motorcade.</span>

I've had this &quot;Groundhog Day" feeling lately. I keep running into new restaurants &#8212; Tavernita, Nellcote &#8212; in which generally intelligent and well-executed food is presented in a cocktails-driven, loud and pulsating nightclub atmosphere.

  21. Phil Vettel recommends flatbread pizzas

Flatbread pizza is practically a contradiction in terms, but there is a place for this hybrid in the larger pizza world. Flatbread pizzas, by virtue of their extra-crispy crusts and small size, make great shared starters, preliminary pizza bites as part of a meal that will be moving onto more substantial items later.
