The Baltimore Gas & Electric Company delivers electricity to more than 1 million customers in a 2,300-sqaure-mile area that includes Baltimore City and all or part of 10 counties in central Maryland. The company also serves more than 600,000 natural gas customers. BGE was founded in 1816 as the first gas utility in the United States, and it brought light in the form of burning gas to Baltimore's streets.
