  10. FLORIDA MAN CHARGED WITH REPORTING FAKE KIDNAPPING

    Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Florida man after he falsely reported being kidnapped from Texas and attacked in a Raceland neighborhood. Shortly before 8:00 AM Friday, February 4, 2011 deputies were dispatched to a convenience store at 3805 Hwy 1 in Raceland where they met up with Christopher Greenlee (W/M, DOB 7/20/1971, 160 Wedgewood Drive, Bonifay, Florida). Greenlee initially told deputies that was on his way to a laundromat in the town where he was living in northeast Texas Thursday night around 6:00 PM. Greenlee claimed that a man jumped into his truck, pointed a knife at him and said &quot;drive". Greenlee said he was directed to drive to the Alidore community in Raceland. Once there, Greenlee claimed his "Texas attacker" and another man tied him up. Greenlee says he was able to free himself and then he walked to the convenience store where he called deputies. As detectives began investigating Greenlee's claims, he admitted making up the story because he had borrowed the truck from a friend who had no idea he was in Louisiana. Greenlee told detectives that he had decided to leave Hughes Springs, Texas and head home to Florida but on the way he made a wrong turn in Lafayette, then a wrong turn in Raceland where he did end up in the Alidore community. Greenlee claimed three men did attack him, but could not provide a detailed description of them. "It is still unclear why Mr. Greenlee decided it was a good idea to lie to our deputies and investigators with his story of the fabricated attack" said Sheriff Craig Webre. "At this time, there is no reason to believe he was or is in any danger and therefore he was charged accordingly with wasting the time and resources of this agency," Webre added Greenlee was charged with criminal mischief (R.S. 14:59) for filing a false police report and remains in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of $2,500 bond as was set by Judge Hugh Larose.
