Josh Jasper booted a 36 yard field goal in overtime , then watched Arkansas missed a tying field goal attempt as LSU beat Arkansas 33-30 Saturday night in Baton Rouge.
Arkansas placekicker Alex Tejada's 36 yard attempt that would have sent the game to a second overtime missed by a whisker wide right. The miss touched off a wild celebration as LSU won for the 9th time this season.
The celebration came 7 days after poor clock management in the final seconds cost LSU a chance at victory at Ole Miss.
Head coach Les Miles took blame for the Ole Miss defeat. But, he was still subject to intense criticism the entire week.
Said Miles in the press conference, with his wife Kathy nearby, "I have thick skin. As long as my wife and family love me I will be okay."
Jasper tied an LSU record with 4 field goals. tied the game with :04 seconds to play in regulation on a 41 yard field goal. Earlier Jasper had converted twice from 47 yards.
Arkansas took a 30-27 lead with 1:18 to play on 14 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Mallett to Joe Adams on fourth down and nine.
Jordan Jeffeson threw two touchdown passes for LSU. His 15 yard pass to DeAngelo Peterson gave LSU a 24-13 lead midway through the third quarter.
Trindon Holliday returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown to give LSU a 17-3 in the second quarter.
LSU reclaimed "the Boot", the trophy that goes to the winner of Arkansas/LSU game, for the first time since 2006.
Les Miles is now 25-1 as LSU coach in night games at Tiger Stadium. The only loss was earlier this season, 13-3 to top ranked Florida.
LSU is likely head to the Capital One Bowl January 1st in Orlando. The bowl pairings will be announced next Sunday.
