A university in Clinton County will soon be in the national spotlight.

ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is at Lock Haven University and will showcase volunteers doing remodeling work at one of its dorms.

The work is being done to surprise Lock Haven student Brian Keefer who, because he is in a wheelchair, has to live in the dorm's student lounge.

Now ABC's Extreme Makeover is creating a new lounge for students to enjoy on Brian's behalf.

Work is underway at Lock Haven University's Woolridge Hall as volunteers sanded, painted and varnished. But this remodeling work is a little unique. This work is being done by ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and will be featured in an upcoming episode.

Many of the volunteers are Lock Haven students themselves and say having their school on national television is unbelievable.

"It's very exciting. You don't get to see or hear too much about Lock Haven. It's this little small town in central PA, you know?" said Lock Haven junior Heather Weinreich.

The project is a surprise for Lock Haven University student Brian Keefer. Producers with the show say Keefer is wheelchair-bound.

Keefer and his father are living in the dorm's student lounge to accommodate his condition. Keefer wrote to Extreme Makeover, saying he'd like to give back to his school.

The show is remodeling an unused room to provide students with a new lounge as Keefer's thank you for giving up their hang out spot for him.

"It's definitely amazing," said junior Andrea Bills. "It's an amazing thing they're doing for Brian and I hope nothing but the best for him. I'm glad they're definitely doing this for him."

Keefer and his family are away on vacation and producers at Extreme Makeover say they're also remodeling the family's home in York County to make that wheelchair-friendly.

Volunteers say they're just happy to be a part of something that will give back to someone so deserving.

"Definitely, I know he's going to face a lot of challenges in the future and to want to better himself and support himself, I think it's a great idea. I support him 100 percent," said Weinreich.

The feature on Brian Keefer is tentatively set to air on Sunday, September 25 on WNEP-TV.

Extreme Makeover's cameras will be there to capture the family's surprise when they return from vacation this weekend.
