The new Rouses store Downtown has people buzzing. Not because they can finally make groceries in the CBD, but because of all the twisted treats. Vanessa Bolano samples a few, and gives the lowdown on them all!
As shoppers browse for the basics I wonder, is anyone noticing the madness? Rouses Downtown is loaded with twisted treats! Let's start with breakfast!
“These are the donuts, are our gourmet signature donuts. They are big! They're not your average donut, but we have some unique varieties; we have like a Crème Brule Donut, we even have one with bacon; like a caramel bacon donut,” says Tim Acosta, Director of Advertising & Marketing.
Right next to the donuts there is a gelato bar. In the mood for a unique flavor? Why not try king cake, or salted caramel, or shamrock mint pistachio, or avocado?
Off to the next twisted treat booze, if your of age, of course!
“We have the largest selection of craft beers in the city. It's a bunch of unique small brewery type of beers,” says Acosta, “Right now we are in our wine departments. What we have in this store is just like our own little wine reserve room.”
They're home to St. James Cheese Comany cheeses, Wagyu beef, a tank of tilapia, a full service kitchen cooking up chef prepared entrees and a giant muffaletta.
“This is our giant party size muffaletta. It weighs like 13lbs, feeds 50 people, king size, superdome muffaletta.”
Rouses downtown is also a hotspot for lunch and dinner with a hot food bar serving made to order burritos, and Pho, or Vietnamese noodle soup.
For dessert the bakery is heating up some off the wall treats, my favorite, this red velvet king cake.
