LAROSE, La.—
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office says a student shot himself after shooting at a teacher and missing.

Sgt. Lesley Peters, a sheriff's office spokeswoman, says the student shot at the teacher Monday morning inside Larose-Cut Off Middle School, then went behind a stairwell and shot himself in the head.

She says the student was taken to a hospital.

Peters says the school has been locked down, all other students are accounted for and nobody else was shot.

Sheriff Craig Webre says he believes the student is 15 years old. His name has not been released.

The shooting is still under investigation.

Larose is about 45 miles southwest of New Orleans.
