Sheriff's Office Expects Plea In Lafourche Officer Death
THIBODAUX - Lafourche Parish sheriff's spokeswoman Lesley Hill-Peters says a Bayou Blue man is expected to plead guilty to running over and killing a deputy last August in Chackbay.

Forty-two-year-old Billy Joe Daigle had a hearing scheduled Wednesday afternoon in the death of Deputy Martha Woods-Shareef, who was trying to arrest him for a suspected burglary August 20, 2008.

The deputy's husband, Rashid Sharif, says that as part of a plea agreement, Daigle won't face the death penalty.

Daigle is charged with first-degree murder. Officials haven't released details about what charge he's expected to plead to, or what sentence would be recommended.
