New Orleans - Facebook and Twitter are some of the new tools in the grassroots efforts to re-open Charity Hospital.

Eli Ackerman, one of the founders of Save Charity Hospital says, "I was never a twitter fan to begin with but its pretty useful so we're using it."

Along with other young adults, the group is dedicated to saving one of the oldest medical facilities in New Orleans.

Member Jonah Evans says, "Its not just about the building for me, its about, there's a plan out there that's less expensive, that's faster, that's less destructive than tearing down 70 acres of a neighborhood."

The group is not just using bumper stickers and yard signs by the thousands; it's also turning to the internet to help it's cause. The group's facebook page, for example, already has 822 members. "We're finding that that's a great way to get a lot of the information out to folks. It's a very confusing issue for a lot of people. We're trying to cut through all that and find an easy way for people to know where to go to stay up to date and also learn all the facts" Evans says.

Neither Ackerman nor Evans is from New Orleans. They say they're so interested in saving Charity because of their love for their new home. They also say it's easy for other young people to get involved in social issues like they're doing. "While its important to work on national issues and work on international issues, the place to act is where you live" Ackerman adds.
