NEW ORLEANS—
In advance of NFL Kickoff events and the NFL Kickoff parade and
concert on Thursday, September 9, 2010, the City announced the
following street and traffic plans.The New Orleans Saints will be hosting the Minnesota Vikings in the Louisiana Superdome at 7:30 p.m. The NFL Kickoff is the annual event held in the Super Bowl champion city, featuring a live, televised concert prior to the first game of the NFL season. It is the 3rd largest event put on by the NFL every year.
PARADE ROUTE INFORMATION
The parade will begin at 5:00 pm on Elysian Fields Avenue between Royal and Dauphine Streets. The parade will proceed (with traffic) on Elysian Fields to North Peters and turn right (against traffic) on North Peters to Dumaine Street. Once passing Jackson Square, the parade will continue on Decatur and North Peters Streets to Canal Street. The parade will cross Canal Street on North Peters and Tchoupitoulas Streets to Julia Street, where it will disband at approximately 8:00 pm. A map of the route is attached.
INFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES AND ARTISTS IN JACKSON SQUARE
The walkways nearest merchants at the Pontalba Apartments will remain open to shoppers at all times.
The pedestrian malls around Jackson Square will be closed on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, from 12:00pm to 8pm. The pedestrian malls will close again on Thursday, September 9, 2010, from 7:00am to Friday at 7:00am.
Also, while the stores' walkways will remain open at all times, the corner of Decatur at St. Peters is designated as a VIP entrance into Jackson Square and will have controlled access on Thursday afternoon. Signage will be placed on Decatur and Chartres Streets directing pedestrian traffic to the St. Peter and St. Ann Street shops.
Artists and street merchants will be moved to the requested areas located around the US Mint and Supreme Court buildings when the Jackson Square pedestrian mall is closed.
Carriage ride providers will be allowed to set up at Conti and Decatur on Wednesday. On Thursday, as streets close, carriage ride providers will be relocated to US Mint and Supreme Court buildings.
STREET CLOSURES & PARKING ZONES
Wilkinson Street will be closed through Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 PM.
Decatur Street (from St. Louis to Dumaine) will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 12 ? 8 PM and on Thursday, Sept. 9 starting at 12 PM through 6 AM on Friday, Sept. 10.
All of Decatur Street will be closed during the Parade.
There is no parking on Decatur Street from Toulouse to Dumaine through Friday, Sept. 10.
