La. initial jobless claims fall 16 percent
First-time claims for unemployment benefits in Louisiana fell 16 percent for the week ending July 24.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says there were 4,395 initial claims for the week - down from 5,237 the previous week. Most of the decrease was in the transportation equipment sector.

For the comparable week ending July 25, 2009, there were 5,033 first-time claims for benefits.

For the most-recent week, those still looking for work filed for 59,635 weeks of continued benefits. That's up from the previous week's total of 57,971.

For the comparable week a year ago, there were 64,125 additional weeks of payments.
