Around 3 p.m. today a chemical was released in Harahan at an industrial plant.
According to Tommy Coon, Facility Manager at Industrial Chemicals, A container of brick acid, or hydrocholric acid, fell from forks of a lift truck. The material was subsequently released.
When the chemical comes in contact with moist air like todayy, it fumes, fogs. It was a minor spill but due to the high humidity it made it look bad, he said.
Coon says all the proper notification was handled. Jefferson Parish officials came out with Hazmat and they gave the go ahead to clean up.
