NEW ORLEANS -
The troubled Canal Street Hotel isn't just the subject of a murder investigation. It is also what the city wants shut down due to a bevy of healthy code and fire code violations.
But according to a source close to ABC26 News, an armed robbery occurred there back in May, and the victim of that robbery told police a man by the name of Darren Singleton was the culprit. Singleton now sits in jail on $75-thousand dollars bond. But ABC26 news has learned Kenrya Johnson -- last night's murder victim -- was a witness of that armed robbery on that May night, and she later said in court and to members of the District Attorney's office that Singleton didn't do it.
In open court and to DA officials she named who did, according to our legal source. Those alleged culprits so far have not been identified. It's not know if any witness protection had been provided for Kenrya Johnson after her testimony, and as of Wednesday night, the DA's office has yet to call us back for comment.
