New Orleans—
Funeral services are set for the victim of last weeks revenge shooting.Family members told WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter that 28-year old Chandrick Harris was shot to death in his mother's home when he couldn't tell his killer where another man was hiding.
It happened in Gretna last Thursday, one day after police say 19-year old Makale Thompson shot and killed 23-year old Delast Francois in the 2100 block of Huey P. Long.
Investigators believe 26-year old Derrick François was trying to avenge his brother's death.
Harris' mother Lorraine Harris says Francois and Chandrick were childhood friends, so she had no reason to consider him a threat when he knocked on her door asking to speak to Chandrick.
Police say once inside, Francois fired several shots which killed Chandrick Harris, who was lying in his bed.
"If I'd thought or dreamed that he was coming to kill my child I would have told him no he's asleep. I wouldn't have opened the door," Lorraine Harris said.
Makale Thompson, surrendered to police Monday. He was charged with second-degree murder.
Derrick Francois is still wanted by Gretna police.
Funeral services for Chandrick Harris will be held Friday morning beginning at New Home Family Worship Center, located at 411 Opelousas Street in Algiers.
A repass service will follow at 11am at the West Bank Lions Club, located at 476 Franklin Avenue in Gretna.
