ST. CHARLES PARISH -
Troop B- This morning shortly after 5:30 am, State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 3127, which claimed the life of an Edgard woman.
The crash occurred on LA 3127 at its intersection with LA 3141 near Kilona, LA. The crash involved a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Rosemarie Burke (B/F, 75 yrs), of Kilona, La and a 1997 Ford pick-up driven by Elsa Cortez (W/M, 35 yrs), of Des Allemands, La. The Nissan was traveling southbound on LA 3141 at which time the driver failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of LA 3141 and LA 3127. The Nissan then proceeded into the path of the Ford, which was traveling westbound on LA 3127 in the right lane. The Ford then struck the Nissan on the left side with its front bumper causing severe damage.
As a result of the crash the driver of the Nissan, Burke suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Ford, Cortez suffered moderate injuries and was transported to St. Charles Hospital.
Driver impairment is unknown but not suspected. (Results pending a toxicology examination.)
