NEW ORLEANS -
An Alabama man accused of killing his captain
on a fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico has been indicted on a
murder charge.
The indictment handed up Friday by a federal grand jury in New Orleans charges 44-year-old Thomas J. Poole, of Foley, Ala., with second-degree murder in the death of 53-year-old Michael Holman, of Bon Secour, Ala.
Authorities say Poole was a crew member on a fishing vessel, the Miss Sharlott, when he stabbed Holman eight times during an altercation in the boat's cabin on Oct. 7.
The boat was about 18 miles off the coast of Louisiana at the time of Holman's slaying.
If Poole is convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
