AVONDALE - Sheriff Newell Normand reports, this evening around 5:48 p.m. that Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Officers responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Live Oak Drive near Hwy 90 in Avondale.

First responding officers observed two vehicles, one being a 97 Ford pick-up occupied by four victims and the other being a '05 Chrysler 4-door auto occupied by two victims.

With the exception of an unidentified female passenger in the pick-up, who was pronounced dead on the scene, the remaining victims were transported to University Hospital with multiple injuries.

Traffic fatality officer Scott Taconi's investigation revealed the driver of the pick-up, identified as Bruce Shannon Harris, B/M, 39 of Megehee Court in Waggaman, along with the decedent, (B/F 38) and two children, B/M, 2 (critical but stable) and B/M, 13 (stable) were traveling Westbound on Live Oak Drive when he crossed the center line into the path of the Chrysler auto being driven by a B/F, 46 (stable) of Waggaman along with her 8 year old (stable).

Harris will be booked with Negligent Homicide, Negligent Injury, Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Driving on a Suspended Drivers License.
