WAGGAMAN - An investigation will be conducted into an ammonia release in the New Orleans area.

Jefferson Parish officials say a Cytec Industries facility at Waggaman lost power on Monday, causing its flares to go out. A result release of ammonia led to reports of burning eyes and strong odors in Waggaman and Bridge City.

Officials say the release was stopped after power was restored. Authorities say the release was not considered life threatening and did not require evacuation.
