Tonight fans were invited to Champions Square to witness the lighting of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Crews have been installing 26,000 lights; it's the final portion of the $85 Million in upgrades to the Dome.
General Manager Alan Freeman says,"We've got the ability to program those colors to different things. One color for Saints games for instance, a different color for Tulane games. We'll do different colors based on the season of the year."
The last time the Dome was lit up was for the BCS Championship in 2008. Freeman says the current lights do not compare.
"In addition to the fact that the Superdome is a world class facility, this is even going to set us apart from some of the newer buildings in the country," according to Freeman.
The lights are extremely energy efficient. Freeman says they will make a minimal impact on their energy bill.
