NEW ORLEANS -
A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to a charge he fraudulently received more than $87,000 in federal grant money after Hurricane Katrina.
Fifty-eight-year-old Joseph Recasner faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison following his guilty plea Tuesday to one count of making false statements to the federal government.
Recasner secured a homeowner grant from Louisiana's Road Home program to rebuild a home that had belonged to his deceased parents. But prosecutors said he was living at a different residence that wasn't eligible for a grant when Katrina struck in August 2005.
His sentencing is set for March 25.
