US Postal representatives told the crowded city hall chambers it makes financial sense to close the downtown post office because of the decline in workload for three consecutive years.
Kerry Fitts who runs a small local on-line business bayousalvage.com says shutting down this office down will impact her business in a negative way, “That's 2 or 3 less stops I get  to make during the day also that's time I’m not able to do my job. If you take it away you may be taking away part of our small town.”
The Postal Service says this cutback will save them nearly eight hundred thousand dollars over a ten year span.
The downtown Gretna post office is slated to close in May.
