Hundreds of Louisiana linemen are heading to the northeast to restore power in the wake ofHurricane Irene.
The Entergy crews hit the road on Saturday morning and stopped briefly in North Georgia before continuing their route Sunday morning. Their first stop will likely be Maryland, which suffered power losses during the storm.
"In the morning, they'll check in and go through a safety protocol," said Philip Allison, an Entergy Spokesman. "The (Maryland) utility will either assign them to a location or let them go work for another utility."
About 156 of those linemen came from the New Orleans area, Allison said. The rest are from Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi and other areas of Louisiana.
Crews will have to wait until the storm has passed before they can begin any power restoration work.
