New Orleans Police are laying out their plan to protect people during carnival. And there is at least one major change this year: it’ll depend on how old you are and where you're standing.
Supt. Ronal Serpas says the new 8 o’clock curfew in the French quarter during Mardi Gras will be enforced.
"If we can find their parent first we'd much rather do that because that's where the correction and the corrective action is most effective," says Serpas. "If we can't find parents then we're going to take them to the curfew center."
The city wide curfew is 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday Night. The French Quarter curfew is 8 p.m. every night. Which means if you’re under 17 on a Saturday night standing in the quarter at 8 o’clock, you could go to the curfew center.
Even though blocks away outside the French Quarter kids have until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
“We actively look for curfew to protect children,” says Serpas.
