U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon is asking for $21
million for levees and flood protection in southeast Louisiana.
The Democrat wants to include several projects in the 2010 spending bill. He wants about $15 million for levee work in the Atchafalaya Basin floodway and $5.8 million on the Larose to Golden Meadow levee system.
Melancon also is looking for $386,000 to study the proposed Donaldsonville to the Gulf levee system and $157,000 to study improving flood control in St. Charles Parish.
