Sheriff Craig Webre announced the first of its kind event in Lafourche Parish this Thursday morning. At 5:00 AM, officers from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, Thibodaux, Golden Meadow and Lockport Police Departments along with several members of Probation and Parole searched the parish from top to bottom for DWI offenders as part of Operation Tackling Impaired Drivers. The Operation was coordinated with the full support of the local judiciary.
10 teams of officers (approximately 35 in all) were armed with 71 arrest warrants for people wanted for outstanding issues involving a DWI arrest. A total of 16 people were arrested during the six hour sweep of the parish. 1 person being sought was found to have been arrested last night. Three were able to prove they had indeed taken care of outstanding issues related to their charges and arrangements were made to recall their warrants. Two of the people named in the warrants are now deceased. Deputies attempting to serve one warrant were told 46-year old Allan Millan formerly of Thibodaux now lived with relatives in Texas following a vehicle crash that left him paralyzed. Deputies were told it was believed alcohol was involved in that wreck. Millan was wanted in connection with a March 2008 DWI incident involving a hit and run crash.
