Looking for a permanent, fuller, sexier smile? Lip implants could be your solution.
Covington Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Kinsley says the latest implant to hit the market is the new silicone SurgiSil lip implants. The implants come in three different sizes, and have a soft, pliable feel to them that Dr. Kinsley says allows them to naturally move with the mouth.
Unlike some of the older implants used by surgeons, Dr. Kinsley says these new implants are one piece, not two, and patients are not expected to experience the side effect of lumps or hardening in between the implants that patients sometimes experienced in the past.
The procedure takes about 10 minutes, is usually done in a physician's office using a nerve block to numb the entire mouth area, and costs about $1500. For patients heading to the doctor's office a few times a year to get injectable fillers in their lips at $500-$700 a syringe, Dr. Kinsley says implants can actually be a big money saver in the long run.
The implants are permanent, but can be removed if the patient doesn't like them. Expect possible bruising, swelling, and soreness the first week after the procedure.
