When they arrived on the scene deputies found the front door partially opened with blood smeared on it and 29-year-old Soron Salter on the floor behind the door. Investigators say Salter had wounds that indicated a violent struggle.

Deputies learned from witnesses that a gray Cadillac had been parked at the scene until just a few minutes before they arrived.

By 1:50 p.m., doctors at the North Shore Hospital contacted the Sheriff's Office to report an emergency room patient with knife wounds to his hands and arms. The patient was identified at Bierria, who drove himself to the hospital in a gray Cadillac.

Investigators say Bierria refused to speak with them about his injuries, but say he did place himself at the scene of the murder. Investigators believe physical evidence collected at the scene will be linked back to Bierria.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Bierria was the aggressor during the struggle.

The gray Cadillac was seized and towed to the Crime Lab.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant early this morning and booked Bierria into the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where he is being held without bond.

Bierria, originally from the Slidell area, played college football in Georgia then spent two seasons as a strong safety with the Seattle Seahawks in 2002 and 2004. Bierria was selected by the Seahawks as the 120th overall pick in the 2002 draft.
